About the Role

We're looking for an enthusiastic Junior Security Analyst to join our growing cybersecurity team at NexusPoint Systems. As we expand our security services to meet increasing client demand across Western Australia's mid-market, this is an exciting opportunity to build your career in a dynamic, supportive environment.

You'll work directly with Marcus Webb, our Cybersecurity Lead, as part of a close-knit 3-person security team that's at the heart of our strategic pivot toward comprehensive cybersecurity services. This role offers hands-on experience across multiple client environments while contributing to some of the largest security projects in our company's history.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and triage security alerts from our SIEM platform, escalating critical incidents according to established procedures
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments and penetration testing for mid-market clients (50-500 employees)
  • Support incident response activities, including evidence collection and preliminary analysis
  • Help maintain security documentation and compliance frameworks for client environments
  • Conduct security awareness training sessions for client staff
  • Participate in after-hours on-call rotation (1 week per month) with appropriate compensation
  • Collaborate with our Service Desk team led by Sam Okoro to resolve security-related tickets
  • Assist with security architecture reviews alongside Senior Solutions Architect Liam Foster
  • Support preparation of security reports and recommendations for client leadership teams

What You'll Bring

Essential: - Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, IT, Computer Science, or related field - Understanding of core security concepts: firewalls, intrusion detection, vulnerability management - Basic knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS) - Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail - Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client interaction - Eligibility for Australian Government security clearance (preferred)

Desirable: - Internship or work experience in IT or cybersecurity - Industry certifications (Security+, Network+, or equivalent) - Experience with SIEM tools (Splunk, QRadar, or similar) - Scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Python, or Bash) - Understanding of cloud security concepts (Azure, AWS)
